The weather forecast for the weekend was overcast and heavy raining. So, I packed extra towels and soap. When I tried to put in a toothbrush and toothpaste- Moe stopped me.
"Mom, you do realize that I'm not going to have time to brush my teeth in the morning."
I instantly shuddered and replied, "That's disgusting- you don't want to go around with morning breath."
"It's calling roughing it". "When you're out camping with the guys- no one cares about morning breath and trust me, no one is going to bother brushing their teeth or taking a shower." And then Moe proceeds to take out the extra towel and soap from his backpack.
It was hard to shake the image of Moe going through out the day with cotton mouth, so I made him promise to stop at the convenience store and buy gum or Altoids.
Moe rolls his eyes and says, "Yes, mom." I feel like I've won a small victory.
"Do you think you could at least just wipe yourself down before you go to bed?" "You'll feel so much better and get a better sleep if you do."
Moe gives me this exasperated look, and I know that no matter how much I try to convince him about the merits of cleanliness, on a camping trip- it wall fall on deaf ears.
When Moe came home after his trip, he was exhausted, but had a great time fishing, crabbing, sand surfing, building beach fires, and they played a version of hot potato, but with a live crab.
The game was short lived because someone is a tad scared of crabs and when the crab came to him- he spiked the poor crab into the sand, ending the game. I won't say who that person is, but he looks a lot like RM. Shhhhhh...
Moe and RM wants to go camping by the beach as a family trip.
Of course, I'll go with them as long as we go in a RV equipped with a bed and shower.
And I definitely will not be "roughing it"....I'm brushing my teeth.

Honestly, if I had been able to go camping at the beach when I was in YW, I would have been very, very active. :)
I could not go anywhere without being able to brush my teeth...and brush my hair...and put on my makeup
guess "roughing it" is not my style
HOWEVER, hubby is very much into roughing it so I know he will be trying to slowly get me used to being in the outdoors......
yikes
sounds so fun! I am like you. I need a shower... lol
This looks like so much fun.... except the no bathing and teeth brushing part. I know several boys around here who would gladly join in!
From what I have learned it is just not a "guy thing" to brush your teeth on a church campout. My son would be "humiliated" if he were the only boy there brushing his teeth "guys just don't do that". So ... I make him brush and floss before he leaves. Luckily, so far he's been home within 24 hours and can brush and floss when he gets back!
Poor crab!
What a fun trip though!
That does look like fun. I don't know how good a camping buddy I would be. I can't imagine really roughing it! The beach is a beautiful location though.
Heather, thanks so much for your prayers and friendship. It really means so much to me :)
I get not taking a shower ... but I DON'T get not brushing your teeth. And I think maybe RM and Moe can have a boy's weekend with their little trip, don't you think?
i like camping! i go fully equipped, i;m not a rough camper. My requirements are running water and electricity. i need a toilet that flushes, which usually entails some sort of shower facility and I need an outlet aT THE campsite, which means, i can bring my rice cooker and crock pot! LOL
smiling does help, but what got me through some of our hardest trials was Putting my shoulder to the wheel. when we all worked our plan, the days that turned into months that turned into almost a year didn't seem so bad. AND don't forget to look up! blessings come through the simplest of things. After the rain comes the rainbow and sometimes if your lucky the pot of gold is there too! hang in there! when life gets to hard to stand, kneel! I'm praying for you! love ya too.
Ugh! At not brushing his teeth! Lol! Boys!!!
Looks like so much fun though!
Btw, loved the above post, and so true!
